Today's Daily: Are we truly living?

I'm back! If you missed last week's email the new cadence for TGS is Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Hope you enjoy the changes!

When ordinary language won’t do, Creativity is a savior of self-expression.

Of healing.

Of meaning-making.

Of finding our voice.

A consistent creative practice can heal many ailments and answer many questions.

Creativity opens the portal and gateway to our truest selves.

Allowing us to feel safe enough to listen, feel, and heal.

It grounds and connects us to what’s honest within.

According to this study:

“Engagement with creative activities has the potential to contribute toward reducing stress and depression and can serve as a vehicle for alleviating the burden of chronic disease.”

Expressive writing, for example, can ease pain severity and depression.

Expressing emotion and anger is helpful especially if it leads to meaning-making.

It’s been shown that writing about traumatic experiences improves health, lowers doctor visits, and makes the immune system healthier.

Are we truly living?

To ignore the inner creative is the death of the soul.

And if the soul dies are we truly living?

Creativity was the thread that kept me together for most of my twenties.

When I didn’t know how to express myself verbally I wrote a song or a poem.

When I felt heartbroken after a breakup I journaled.

In the ways my support system or emotional education was lacking, Creativity gave me a safe outlet to feel and process.

Now it allows me to express my individual callings.

Art is vulnerable

It’s my mission to spread far and wide the necessity of acknowledging, nurturing, and expressing the creative self.

It’s not that people deny Creativity is important.

It's that they don't prioritize it.

Why?

For many reasons:

  • Delayed gratification.
  • Conditioning that money and status are more valuable.
  • The unknown.

And this biggie: Art is vulnerable.

It’s the closest we get to the soul.

Creativity feels powerful and profound and creates the connection we crave but are afraid to have.

Many people can’t handle being seen.

Do I feel scared showing you my Pokémon, Spice Girl, Taylor Swift-loving self?

Absolutely.

Did I struggle for years to claim my creative callings?

Heck yes. I still do.

But I’ve also felt the power of living in my experience and being honest with myself.

There’s power in you doing the same.

You have something to say, Reader.

Whether in song or book.

Don't be afraid to put your point of view out there or to develop it.

Quiet the outer noise and judgment.

Love yourself.

Trust your inner voice.

Follow what brings you joy.

Every person has their own stress and worries.

Be the example that says it's OK to dream, to create, and get excited about the little things.

Find your joy, Reader.

Move up the ladder to higher vibrations by writing at the top of a blank page:

What is my favorite way to creative? How can I lean into it more often?

and see what flows from your pen. No judgment or editing.

I am a creative being with a creative calling.

I listen to my soul and give it what it wants.

Do something creative for ten minutes.

No outcome attached. No number to hit.

Something that brings you joy.

  • Eye Candy: The set from the new Barbie movie. My whole body buzzed after watching the trailer. I’m seeing the movie this week and avoided plot explainers to go in as fresh as possible. The movie looks gorgeous: colors, outfits, and stationery. Obsessed!!

  • Tried This: Going to bed when I’m tired instead of forcing myself to stay awake. It feels good!

10x Is Easier Than 2x is still rocking my world. If you're someone who enjoys getting to the next level in your work and creativity this book is a must read.

Dan Sullivan, the world's leading coach for highly successful entrepreneurs, teaches how achieving 10x growth in any area of life is easier than striving for 2x growth.

There are more paths to something that's 2x. Which makes the right way forward confusing. 10x growth is easier because there's only 1 or 2 choices one can make.

This book made me ask some brutally honest questions. Ones that cracked open emotions like insecurity, fear, and excitement. For years I've wanted to simplify my life and this book finally helped me do it. 10X is fundamentally about quality vs quantity. The work isn't easy but it's oh-so worth it.

February's ThemeThe Power of Nervous System Regulation Is self-help helping—or just making us anxious? There’s a lot I’ve been questioning lately about the self-help space. How the obsession with individualism can pull us away from the community we actually need. How actual mental health isn’t about feeling good 24/7 or eliminating discomfort but about having an appropriate response to life’s challenges. And then there’s this: What if self-help is feeding our anxiety instead of alleviating...

February's ThemeThe Power of Nervous System Regulation November 12 Hi Reader, For thousands of years, men have been the custodians of the knowledge of meditation. So of course it’s designed to meet their needs. It was taught mostly by celibate, single Monks living in remote areas. Sitting still in silence for hours was doable in those conditions. Possibly even because they still had women who cooked and cleaned for them. Who knows. What I do know is expecting a woman in the thick of raising...

February's ThemeThe Power of Nervous System Regulation May 13 Hi Reader, Not gonna lie. I struggle with the pressure to do it all: clean the house, cook dinner, raise a toddler, grow a business, and pursue creativity. This is impossible and unrealistic for one person. Yet, in a society that leaves families to fend for themselves, it's no wonder many of us feel on our own. Even if you're not a parent, you can still relate to getting overloaded by expectations, pressures, rules, and tasks. I...
